Axonn Receives Patent for Proprietary Transmitter Unit
Patent award significantly increases Intellectual property position
Covington , LA - September 25, 2006 - Axonn LLC, the exclusive provider of asset monitoring hardware utilizing the Globalstar Simplex Data Network, today announced it has been awarded patent number 7.099.770 for its AXTracker® line of products. AXTracker units are global one-way communication and asset monitoring devices that combine the Globalstar Simplex Data Service, GPS and RF technologies with innovative battery design to deliver a "place-and-play", long service life solution for monitoring fixed and mobile assets.
According to patent documentation, "there is an unmet need for an asset tracking device that operates on an internal battery that provides years of wireless service, utilizes satellite communication , integrates Global Positioning Satellite service (GPS) and provides for external data such as alarms and raw user data to enable endpoint monitoring status beyond location".
Therefore, patent number 7.099.770 was awarded to Axonn and will cover the tracking and local status of mobile assets using positioning information that utilizes a simplex transmitter to send the information over a low earth orbit satellite network.
Scott Quillin, a technical sales manager for Axonn and one of the patent inventors believes that, "this patent significantly increases our intellectual property position with low cost wireless solutions that operate untethered with multiple year battery life. Our AXTracker products are now further protected under our patent portfolio and strengthen our position as being on the cutting edge of low cost communication methods."
"The redundant transmissions from the AXTrackers have proven to be cost effective and a reliable way of getting information from mobile or fixed assets, especially unpowered, assets," stated Ronnie Tanner, an Axonn engineering manager and patent inventor. "We have spent years testing and proving our technology and its nice to know that it is now patent protected."
The simplex modems developed by AXONN are currently used exclusively by AXXON and all other integrated solution providers for asset tracking, monitoring and other applications that utilize the Globalstar Simplex Data Network. The technology transmits real-time GPS location and other data over the Globalstar constellation of low earth-orbiting (LEO) satellites. Simplex data is transmitted only one-way, from the asset. This form of communication allows costs to remain low and battery life to be extremely high. The product is currently used on a variety of mobile assets such as cargo containers, trailers and railcars, construction and service vehicles as well as fixed assets like field equipment, generators, pipelines, and propane and fuel storage tanks.
Simplex data is one of the fastest growing segments in wireless tracking and monitoring. The number of Globalstar simplex subscribers in 2005 increased by approximately 300%. Globalstar has offered simplex data in the US and Canada since 2003, and throughout Europe, the Middle East and across the north Atlantic region since early 2005.
Axonn products are currently available through more than 50 value added resellers (VARs), product integrators and data service providers who integrate Axonn's hardware as part of their asset tracking, monitoring and management solutions. Full details on Axonn, AXTracker MMT and a list of VARS are available on the company's newly redesigned web site at www.axonn.com.
