Satellite-Based, Life-Saving Communications Device To Be Featured at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show

MILPITAS, Calif.

SPOT Inc., maker of the SPOT™ Satellite Messenger has announced that it has been awarded the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA®) 2008 Innovations Design and Engineering Award. The award, judged and selected annually by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and journalists, was given to SPOT in the category of Personal Electronics. Winners in other categories include the Sony Playstation®3 and Intel’s® Dual Core™ processor.

“The award gives added credibility to SPOT’s unique and innovative place in the world of personal safety and security,” said Dennis Allen, Senior Vice-President of Sales for the company. “SPOT’s feature set delivers easy-to-use piece-of-mind worldwide.“

Small, rugged and simple to use, the SPOT Satellite Messenger is life-saving device designed to improve personal safety for the millions of people who spend time in the outdoors – whether for recreation, work or daily life. With the push of a button, SPOT can transmit a user’s exact location and message to a 9-1-1 emergency call center in times of need, or to friends, family or co-workers to request help, track their location, or just keep in touch. Because SPOT sends a user’s exact GPS satellite location over a commercial satellite network, SPOT works in much of the world regardless of cellular coverage. Viewing messages and locations is easy using the SPOT web service with included Google Maps™ technology.

The innovative design of the SPOT messenger was conceived in-house by SPOT Inc’s lead designer Russ Allen, and then made market-ready through a design partnership with Axonn, LLC., a leading provider of satellite tracking, HS Design, Inc., an award-winning product development firm and ATP, a leading global manufacturer. “SPOT is designed to save lives and connect people – it had to be both easy to use in a crisis, and friendly for everyday use. The final design is as simple as a four button remote control, and the its orange color is universally recognized for both safety and friendliness,” said Mr. Allen.

As an award recipient, SPOT will be featured in the Innovations Showcase booth at the Sands Convention Center at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, January 7-10, in Las Vegas. SPOT Inc. will also be featuring the unit at its CES booth, # 71739, also at the Sands.
